This study examines how debt is a reflection of social inequalities in Chile, analyzing its relationship with social
classes and socioeconomic strata. Using data from the 2021 Household Financial Survey (EFH 2021), a linear
and logistic regression model is applied to analyze the relationship between the financial burden of Chilean fa-
milies and their position in the social structure. The results show that the upper class exhibits the highest level of
proportional indebtedness, in contrast to the middle and lower classes. These findings challenge previous studies
that suggest the middle class is the most indebted. This work contributes to the debate on the relationship between
social class and indebtedness, suggesting that credit not only reflects but also reproduces social stratification.
